Here at TRIHMS-HERA Campus, all have adjusted to “New Normal”, a new way of living and going about life, work, and education, and interactions with other people inside and outside the campus. Everyone including students learned to adopt a lifestyle to live with this crisis. All have learned to move forward taking all necessary precautions like wearing face masks, maintaining social distancing, and frequently washing hands. Building positive traits amongst students during this pandemic crisis is a great achievement of TRIHMS.
Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sclences:
The erstwhlle General Hospital later known as Arunachal State Hospital (ASH) was re-named as Tomo Riba State Hospital (TRSH) in 2016 by the State Govt. as mark of respect to late Tomo Riba who was among the first generation of eduleged people of the state and served the state from early 50s to 2000 as student and community leader, social reformer, administrator, member of the first State Legislative Council, Member of the Legislative Assembly, 2nd Chief Minister of Arunachal, Opposition leader and Member of Parliament.
The first day of the month our country achived Independence 72 years ago, would go down in the history of Arunachal Pradesh as one huge step towards self-sustenance. This day
will witness our drean of having a medical college fulfilled. As the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Science (TRIHMS) opens its gate for the first batch of MBBS students, our journey
towards achieving excellence in higher and technical education receives a major morale booster.
My heartiest greetings to the first batch of students, faculty, administrators and employees of the institute for being a part of the history is making!
Arunachal Pradesh and its people will henceforth have a medical college and hospital at their doorstep, which will extremely ease the burden of the needy and poor who have to depend on the other parts of the country at considerable expenses both the medical education and treatment. The long toil and perseverance of the state government and all stakeholders have at last borne fruit.
I believe the institution will recognize that medical professionalism must be actively taught and assessed so that it nurtures the development of professionalism within the work-place as there is scope to deliver fully on the societal contract between the public and profession in spheres like self-regulation, civil behavior and effective leadership and advocacy.
I sincerely hope that the medical college will take direct responsibility for the professionalism of its members. The expectations of the people have only increased!
With best wishes!
It is indeed a historic occasion since independence for the State of Arunachal Pradesh to witness the induction of the first batch of students into the first Medical College of the State - Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciences at Naharlagun.
This day also marks the beginning of a new era in the history of the health sector in the State. On this occasion, I would like to congratulate all the students for being a part of this history. I am confident that with the start of Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciences, the overall health services in the State will improve.
I am also optimistic that the inducted students will sincerely pursue their chosen career of Medical Sciences in this premiere medical institute and come out with flying colours. I am sure that they will set a new standard and be an example for all other future batches of this Institute to follow and emulate. .
I hope after becoming doctor they will serve in various parts of the State with sincerity and dedication and tremendously contribute in delivering health services to the poor and the needy patients in the far-flung areas. .
I wish the first batch of students a great academic year ahead and a successful career after completion of their respective courses.
The distant dream of Arunachal Pradesh of having its Own Medical College has finally come into reality as TRIHMS Medical College. The Union Government of India has proposed 58 medical colleges all over the country in order to effectively produce well trained, highly academically oriented MBBS graduates, of which Arunachal Pradesh is also one. Enormous efforts have been put in to initiate the TRIHMS Medical College.
I take this opportunity to congratulate the newly joined students of this institute who shall go into the annals of TRIHMS Medical College. I also wish that the so selected students will undertake an oath and shall serve the people of our state as well as our nation.
Every story has a beginning and every beginning has a history. In a way this thirth of Arunachal Pradesh as the newest union territory of India in 1972 was the heginning of this story and the rest is history. The seed of the future TRIHMS Wes planted when a temporary one-room Health Centre was started in the present intation, circa 1973-74, to cater to the need of the labourers and early comers when the Administrative Head quarters of the nascent Arunachal Pradesh Inchristened NEFA: North East Frontier Agency, the newest union territory of healwas being shilfted from Shillong to Naharlagun.

The life of a doctor is an intense life and to be as a doctor is to live so that your life is bound
by the others.
On the outset I would like to thank the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, having chosen
me your first Dean of the TRIHMS, which is likely to progress further as a central institute later
as an institute of national importance. The Government of Arunachal Pradesh has created history
by establishing this institute and all of us who are assembled here and those are behind the scene
will go down into this history and thats idea is the one when brought me as 1st employee of this
TRIHMS all the way from former Madras and present Chennai.
I congratulate each and every one of you on reaching this milestone in your career and life and it is my distinct pleasure
to welcome you on this inaugural ceremony in which you will be formally inducted into the field of medicine as young and
budding medical students. We the Government, faculty are excited that we all become part of the history of Arunachal in which
your role is so important as if you are not there the college is not there and hence no history.
All of you are outstanding group of individual and I am proud of each and everyone of you, so do your parents and the
other near and dear and we are fortunate to have you all as our first batch of MBBS students in newly transformed medical
college.
Like me, when I attended the first day of my medical college you also are filled with plenty of emotions-happiness,
excitement, nervous and fear, do not worry life is full of excitements challenges accept it with no fear but with grace. You have
not choosen the medicine but the destiny has chosen you, and you have been chosen because you can and you will be a great
doctor for the days to come to serve the humanity in healing their pain and sufferings.
You are all born to be doctor, you have meant to be here, this moment is yours. The art of medicine is full of passion so
it is a beautiful thing when passion and career come together.
Let you dedicate your life from today to those who come in your way for being taken care, extend the gentle art of
touch, touch each one with a healing hand for which you stand and at the end of the day let you have the peace as you have
helped one to heal their pain and suffering by you medical knowledge which you will obtain through this institute.
Do not study because you have to, but to obtain the knowledge of power, study as it cannot be taken away from you,
study because you have to know more learn more, as it enhances you, study because it grows you.
You are capable and more than you know. Having chosen the goal, strive to be the best, however, hard the path is. Aim
higher dream, behave honourably as the society views doctor at a tangent. You are not willing to learn no one can help you but
if you are determined no one can stop you. Life is not worth worrying it is worth enjoying every moment and your enjoyment is
in the enjoyment of those whom you treat and heal.
Let me complete by a quote in a lighter vein
"I stab people - to keep them alive
I take exams - without any sleep
I have no life - and yet here I am"
They call me a medical student.
My dear students I wish that you all will join me in thanking your parents, siblings, relatives, friends, neighbours,
teachers, other loved ones, pets and other well wishers for providing support to you for making you to reach where you are
standing today, to be the future physician of Arunachal Pradesh.
